Man's best friend, Jet is not my dog but she is a star. In the evenings she rounds everyone up and puts them to bed.

Fingerprint Friday.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that a strange alien pod had landed but in fact it is just a conker, the seed of the Horse Chestnut tree.
It's that time of year again when children collect theses pods, peel back the fleshy outer coat to reveal the hard nut inside. They then drill holes in them, attach string and play "conkers"They take turns hitting each other's conker using their own. One player lets the conker dangle on the full length of the string while the other player swings their conker and hits until it breaks
It's a sure sign that autumn is here, (that and all the rain).

I know it might seem a little odd but i was just thinking what a lovely colour butternut squashes are.
I like the seeds too.

Fingerprint Friday.

Long lazy summer days, full of impromptu picnics, walks on the beach, visits to the funfair, buckets and spades, eating outside, great books and lots of colour.

fingerprint Friday.

Yesterday a starling, (i think) flew into the window and stunned itself. It fell into the flower pot and stayed there for 20 mins or so before hopping off onto the nearby roof.
It seemed to make a full recovery, even though we did have to "encourage" the cat to stay away from it.
It did give us the chance to get a little closer to the bird than we might have usually been able to so in that respect we were glad but we were even more glad when it was able to take flight again.

Fingerprint Friday.

It was a few weeks ago now, but while visiting a local attraction i almost stepped on this nesting oyster catcher as i crossed the car park. I approached it from the other side, where there was no warning sign. The bird had chosen the middle of a car park to lay her eggs, these birds are usually found by the coast and would lay their eggs on a pebble/stone beach. The gravel in the car park must have seemed very similar, hopefully her eggs will hatch and all will be safe. Mother and nest seemed to be fine when i checked on them later, from quite a distance.

I guess sometimes the things we least expect pop up in the places we least expect them!

fingerprint Friday

I think that thunderstorms are something you either love or hate but me, I'm a lover of them. I never fail to be thrilled by the awe and majesty of nature. We have had a wee spate of them here and the sky at dusk, just as the storm was clearing, made me wanna grab my camera.

Fingerprint Friday

Often, when the weather is warm, as i drive along the side of the estuary there are seals basking on the sand banks and since i have missed a couple of Fp fridays i thought that would be a really lovely shot.
So i parked carefully, (i have been known to bail out  just to try and get a good shot) and ran down to the waterfront, crossing four lanes of traffic, only to find they had gone!
Never mind i will keep an eye out for these elusive wee things and who knows another week i might capture them.

Fingerprint Friday

I am always berating myself for not having my camera with me when i see things i want to capture but tonight on the way home the light was just wonderful and the colours, both in the sky and reflected in the water behind the bridge, made me want to stare. After frantically rummaging around in my bag i found that for once i had my camera with me!

Fingerprint Friday

British Airspace is still closed today due to the
massive plump of volcanic ash which is drifting,
from Iceland, over parts of the country. The images of the mass are beautiful and quite staggering,
a reminder that there is nothing so humbling as the power of nature.

Fingerprint Friday

Every day this week while driving to work, i have noted the swathes of lilac, purple, yellow and white crocus sprouting up on the grass verges at the side of the road. Clearly the bulbs were planted some years ago but they need no tending to encourage them to pop up and shine every spring.
Every day i have thought to myself i want those for my fingerprint friday, but how to stop the car, get out and take a photograph without causing a road traffic accident well that is a puzzle?
Luckily enough i found some more at the edge of a park and was able to stop, park properly and get some shots, no accidents caused!

fingerprint friday

I’ve been happy to witness the awakening of spring by the daily arrival of daffodils, snowdrops, crocuses, primulas et all popping up all around me but I was overjoyed to see this lil’ lady in the garden this week!

Fingerprint Friday

It's been a while since my last Fingerprint Friday. I have had the flu and we've been doing some renovations in the house over the last few weeks and i just have not felt like blogging.
(it's funny how you can get out of the habit isn't it?)
Anyway amidst this chaos Millie still finds a wee place to call her own,
and it made me think  stop, slow down and just enjoy this upheaval, it's only short term!
